Here’s what the Edmonton Journal‘s Sandra Sperounes recently had to say about Goldtop’s upcoming debut release:
“Two years ago, singer-songwriters Alice Kos and Everett LaRoi toured Eastern Canada with Marvin Etzioni, one of the founders of Lone Justice, an ‘80s country-rock band. During those shows, the three performed one of Etzioni’s songs, “You Possess Me”, which he initially recorded with his ex-bandmate Maria McKee.
“Our tour with Marvin served as a catalyst for Ev and I officially forming as Goldtop — Marvin even inspired our name,” Kos continues. “And when we recorded “You Possess Me”, we decided to make it the title track (with Marvin’s blessing), partly as a nod to his influence and partly because it’s just a great song.”
Kos says Goldtop’s debut will “travel between shadowy dream-pop, crunchy distorted rock, and acoustic reverie. At least it appears that way, so far.” Listen to some rough drafts via goldtop.ca. Projected release date: Summer on LaRoi’s label, Spicy Tomato.”
